Galaxy Digital's research division has shared its predictions for the US government's approach to Bitcoin in 2025. Despite growing global interest in digital assets, Galaxy Research expects the US will not purchase additional Bitcoin next year.
No Bitcoin Purchases in 2025
Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, confirmed that the US government will not buy Bitcoin in 2025. Instead, the government will focus on securing its existing Bitcoin holdings, which total 183,850 BTC, valued at about $17.36 billion. These coins are stored across 36 known addresses.
Exploring a Bitcoin Reserve Policy
While the US is not expected to buy more Bitcoin, Thorn predicts that there will be movement towards expanding a Bitcoin reserve policy. Various US departments and agencies are likely to continue discussions on this issue in 2025. This follows proposals such as Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis’s “Bitcoin Act 2024,” which, if passed, could allow the US to acquire 200,000 BTC annually over five years.
Global Bitcoin Adoption: Waiting Game for Other Nations

The idea of Bitcoin as a reserve asset is gaining traction globally. Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba recently expressed uncertainty about the US's actions regarding Bitcoin reserves. Meanwhile, former Binance CEO Changpeng "CZ" Zhao believes China and smaller countries may adopt Bitcoin reserves first, though this shift will likely be gradual.
Global Competition for Bitcoin Reserves
Galaxy Research analyst "JW" suggests that if the US strengthens its stance on Bitcoin, other nations, especially those with large sovereign wealth funds or adversarial to the US, may begin acquiring Bitcoin. He predicts that up to five countries and five Nasdaq 100 companies could add Bitcoin to their balance sheets in the coming years.
Other Crypto Predictions for 2025
Galaxy Research also forecasts that Dogecoin could reach a market cap of $100 billion and hit $1 in 2025. Ethereum could surpass $5,500, while Bitcoin price is expected to peak at $185,000.
Currently Bitcoin Price trading at $94,485.53 as per Coinpedia Market data.
